“Beyond the Fear of Death,” Rev. Michael Leuchtenberger. In the words of Forrest Church, “religion is our human response to the dual reality of being alive and having to die.” Yet it also appears true that “violence and the misuse of power are often a result of our futile attempt to escape the inevitable – our own mortality.” How, then, can our religion guide and empower us to overcome the fear of death in the here and now? The story of Jesus is one example, whether or not you believe in his physical resurrection.
