Kate joined the staff as Choral Ministry Assistant in September of 2020. She will complete her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Michigan State University in December of 2020. She is completing her student teaching at Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, MI with director Steven Lorenz.
As a young child, she grew up attending and singing at Harbor Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Muskegon, MI with her mother who serves as music director. In college, she served as the director of Muusika and the assistant director of the Chalice Choir at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Lansing. She gives private voice lessons throughout the year and works as a substitute music teacher for choir classrooms around central Michigan. Kate has worked as an early childhood music teacher for children ages 0-5 at the MSU Community Music School and as a childcare specialist at Tutor Time Learning Center. She also served as vespers musician at All Saints Episcopal Church in Lansing.
Kate has performed with MSU Opera Theatre in the title role of Vitellia in Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito, as Cupid in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, and as Mae Jones in Weill’s Street Scene. She has sung with the MSU Women’s Chamber Ensemble, University Chorale, State Singers, Women’s Glee Club, Chamber Choir, DMA Choir, and Practicum Choir.
Kate holds active membership in the American Choral Directors Association and Michigan School Vocal Music Association. She is also an alumnus of Sigma Alpha Iota, an international music fraternity.
