As Robert Reich reminds us “The common good consists of our shared values about what we owe one another as citizens who are bound together in the same society – the norms we voluntarily abide by, and the ideals we seek to achieve. [..] If there is no common good, there is no society.” So what good DO we have in common and how can the common good be restored? What role do trust, honor, shame, and civic education play as we imagine ways to resurrect faith in the sources of truth? How do we tap into the virtuous cycle that reinforces the common good rather than letting the vicious cycle of the last few decades undermine our moral imagination.
