Ballads, Fables and Myths

“Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten” (G.K. Chesterton).  We dive into our January theme of “story” by listening to tales of adventure and anguish, vulnerability and virtue, joy, jeopardy, longing, and love as expressed by the bards of old and the songwriters of our own time.  If the wisdom captured in the ballads of Suzanne Vega, Bob Dylan, Harry Chapin, the Scorpions, Carry Newcomer, Paul Simon or others have spoken to you, let Michael know.  If particular fables or myths and their archetypal stories have left their mark in your soul, please point them out.  And come hear the choir sing Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”
