Fellowship & Social Groups
The UU Church offers a variety of ongoing social events and affinity groups for you to connect with like-minded folks.
Tuesday’s Welcome Table
On Tuesdays from the middle of September through early June, come to Fellowship Hall at 6 pm for a free, conversation rich meal of plant-based, low packaging food with gluten free options. Rev. Michael Leuchtenberger prepares the food in our kitchen starting around 4 pm. Volunteer helpers are always welcome. No RSVPs needed and there is no expectation for you and your family / guests to help with anything – before or after the meal. Come and leave however it fits into your schedule. We generally have a single conversation centered around story telling from our lives initiated by prompts Michael offers to the group. Most weeks the conversation runs to about 7:30 or 8 pm with a number of people “fading away” early. Sometimes we play ping pong, pool or other games after we talk. Attendance varies between 6 and 30+ people, with typical attendance around 12-18. The food usually has a main dish (e.g., Red Thai Curry with Rice, Chili with Tofu Crumbles, or Butternut Squash Potato Lasagna), a salad bar, homemade bread, and dessert (e.g., Rice Pudding, Banana Bread, or Apple Crisp – and ice cream) plus a fruit bowl. Here is a link to the recipes Michael uses on a rotating basis. They keep getting amended based on feedback and new ideas.
Octagon Dinners
Named for the shape of our sanctuary, Octagon Dinners are potluck gatherings of 8 people at a congregant’s home. There are three dinner dates scheduled for the first half of 2025. Each group is chosen randomly for each date, so folks get to meet new people at each dinner.
Games & Chocolate
Join us for board games and sweet treats on the first Friday of each month at 6:30 pm. All ages! Bring a treat to share!
“Knitting” Group
Second Saturdays, 10:00 am to Noon Join us in the Parlor
If you craft with yarn or thread, this group is for you. Knitting, crochet, mending, embroidery, hand quilting, needlepoint…. Bring your project and join us on the second Saturday of the month. All are welcome, and no commitment is required.
Book Group
The UU Book Group meets monthly in the church library. We find discussion is best with a group of up to 12 people, so please check with Joanna Henderson via the church office to see if the group has room before you attend. Or start your own. Talk with the office about how to do this.
Softball Team
The intrepid Concord UU Team plays in the Interfaith Church League, a fun, less competitive league where people of all genders get a chance to play. Practice starts around the third Sunday in May. Games are at 6:00 on Monday evenings, and the team gathers for pizza, beer and fun afterward. Reach out to office@concorduu.org if you want to learn more.
