Repentance and Repair

When we inherit a difficult history – as individuals and as communities – how do we hold that inheritance? I learned rather late in life that the Mayflower ancestors I was so proud of for their courage as early settlers of Massachusetts were also involved in the expansion of  Plymouth into surrounding areas, pushing indigenous people off their traditional lands.  How can I, many generations later, hold that history in a nuanced and accountable way?  In the United States, our history of genocide and slavery continues to haunt us.  What is a nation to do?
