Seeking Sanctuary – Within and Without

How do we find a balance between confronting violence in this world and maintaining a sense of inner peace?  When life calls us to boldly speak out and counter force with action, finding inner calm requires us to create a space of sanctuary within which we can calmly process, practice, and prepare for the work without.   Reviewing the history of the idea of sanctuary, from ancient times to medieval Europe, across Christian, Jewish and Muslim traditions, this sermon seeks to understand sanctuary as a spiritual, legal and political space of “fearsome mercy” where refuge was sought, terms negotiated, crimes confronted, and lives were saved.

Our first Sunday drop-in covenant group has been moved to today and will focus on our monthly theme of “Equanimity.”  All are invited to participate.  Rev. Lyn Marshall will facilitate.
